Built for editions you print yourself
Foldsmith focuses on the mechanics of folding and gathering — the part most design apps leave to spreadsheets and guesswork.
-
Signature imposition
Map page order for folded signatures with a live grid preview. Export PDFs sized for your sheet and trim.
-
Folded zines
Lay out one-sheet zines with correct page placement for a single fold and cut — ideal for editions and experiments.
-
Print-ready PDFs
Generate imposed sheets with crop marks and spacing tuned for home studios and small print shops.
-
Native desktop app
Fast, offline-friendly workflow in a dedicated window — no browser tabs, no subscription cloud.

Questions
- Is there a free trial?
- Yes. Every new user gets one week of full access to Foldsmith after installing. When the trial ends, you’ll be prompted to purchase a license to keep using the app.
- Will this work with my home printer or copy shop?
- Yes. Foldsmith exports standard imposed PDFs with crop marks and spacing you can open in any PDF viewer, send to a home printer, or hand off to a copy shop that prints from PDF.
- What are the system requirements?
- macOS: 12 (Monterey) or later on Apple Silicon (M-series). Windows: 10 or 11, 64-bit (installer coming soon). An Intel Mac build may be available on request — email us if you need x64 support.
- Can I install on more than one computer?
- One license is for you personally — install on the Mac and Windows machines you use for your own work (for example a studio desktop and a laptop). Team or shared licenses are not included; contact us if you need multiple seats.
- What file formats does Foldsmith use?
- Upload pages as PNG (.png), JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), WebP (.webp), GIF (.gif), or BMP (.bmp). Export imposed, print-ready PDFs. There are no proprietary project files — your source images and exported sheets stay in formats you can archive anywhere.
- What’s included in the one-time license?
- The full desktop app for macOS and Windows, signature imposition and folded zine tools, and updates for the current major version. Licensed for personal and small-studio use (not redistribution or multi-seat studio deployment without contacting us).
- Do I need an internet connection?
- After install, Foldsmith runs offline. You only need the web for purchase and downloading the installer.
